【English name】 Crown-flowered Mayten

[Source] Medicinal material source: The leaves of the Celastraceae plant Medinia densiflora.

[Original form] Dense-flowered Medinia shrub, up to 4m tall, with thick branches and thorns. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 8-12mm long; leaf blade is papery, broadly elliptic or obovate, 11-24cm long, 3-10cm wide, with short acuminate or acute and blunt apex, narrow cuneate base, nearly entire or with very shallow sparse teeth, often wavy up and down. The petioles, veins and young branches are all purple-red. The inflorescence is clustered, and the peduncle is not obvious; the flowers are small, with 5 sepal lobes, 5 petals, 5 stamens, and 3 carpels. The capsule is triangular-spherical, 10-14mm long and 10-12mm in diameter. The seeds are dark reddish brown, oval or ovoid, about 7 mm long and 6 mm in diameter, with aril. The flowering period is from September to October, and the fruiting period is from October to November.

【Habitat distribution】 Distributed in Guangxi.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The leaves are elliptical or broadly ovate, 9-17-24cm long and 3-8-15cm wide. The leaves are thin, leathery, with obtuse or slightly pointed tips and shallowly wavy or nearly entire margins. The petiole is 0.7-1.1cm long. It has a light smell and a bland taste.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain dulcitol, succinic acid, syringic acid, 3-hydroxykojic acid, loliolide, and maytansine.

【Nature and flavor】 Pungent; bitter; cold; toxic

【Entry into Meridians】 Lung and Liver Meridians

【Functions and indications】Removes blood stasis and relieves pain; detoxifies and reduces swelling. Mainly used for traumatic injuries; low back pain; also has anti-tumor effect; tried to treat cancer in modern times

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g, large dose can be up to 60g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash fresh product for application.
