【English name】RADIX CHANGII

[Other names] Adenophora mingling, Adenophora fennel, Shanhua

[Source] This product is the dried root of Changium smyrnioides Wolff, a plant of the Umbelliferae family . Dig up in April and May, remove the fibrous roots, wash, put into boiling water and cook until there is no white core, take out, scrape off the skin, rinse and dry.

[Properties] This product is in the shape of a slender cylinder, long spindle or irregular strips, 6 to 20 cm long and 0.5 to 2 cm in diameter. The surface is yellowish white or light brown, smooth or with longitudinal grooves and root marks, and some have reddish brown spots. It is hard and brittle, with a horny cross section. The cortex is thin and yellowish white. Some are easily separated from the wood, which is off-white. Slight odor, light taste.

[Identification] Take 1g of the powder, add 20ml of dilute ethanol, treat with ultrasound for 20 minutes, filter, evaporate the filtrate to dryness, add 1ml of acidic dilute ethanol (adjust the pH value to 2-3 with dilute hydrochloric acid) to the residue to dissolve it, and use it as the test solution. Take another 1g of Codonopsis pilosula control medicinal material and prepare a control medicinal material solution in the same way. According to the thin layer chromatography method (Appendix Ⅵ B), 5 μl of each of the above two solutions were taken and spotted on the same silica gel G thin layer plate. Using n-butanol-glacial acetic acid-water (19:5:5) as the developing solvent, develop twice, the first time to 5 cm, the second time to 10 cm. Take out, blow dry with hot air, spray with ninhydrin test solution, and heat until the spots are clearly colored. In the chromatogram of the test sample, spots of the same color appear at the corresponding positions in the chromatogram of the control medicinal material.
