[Source] Medicinal material source: The bulb of Allium sibiricum, a plant of the Amaryllidaceae family.

[Original form] Luceum is a perennial herb. The bulb is oval, 4-5cm in diameter. Leaves emerge in autumn, are about 8 cm long, wither immediately, and emerge again in the early spring of the second year; the leaves are ribbon-shaped, about 2 cm wide, with a rounded tip and are green. The pedicel is 50-70cm high; there are 2 bracts, lanceolate, about 6cm long and 1.3cm wide; the umbel has 4-8 flowers, light purple-red; the perianth lobes are oblanceolate, about 7cm long and 1.8cm wide, with slightly wrinkled edges at the base; the perianth tube is about 2cm long; the stamens are nearly the same length as the perianth lobes, and the style slightly extends out of the perianth. Flowering period is August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Wild in ravines, shady and wet places beside streams.

[Cultivation] Biological Characteristics: It grows in shady and moist grass in ravines and by water. The aboveground part is dormant in summer and winter. The leaves sprout out of the soil in mid-to-late February, and wither and enter a dormant period around late May to early June. Flower stalks emerge in early autumn, and the flowering period is from mid-August to early September. Under normal cultivation conditions, few fruits are produced. In September, the plants wither and enter their second above-ground dormancy, and the bulbs overwinter in the open.

[Chemical composition] The fresh stems contain lycorine, pseudolycorine, dgtgafi lycorine, homolycorine, tazettine, norpluviine, galanhamine, epigalanthamine, vittatine, pluviie, lycoramine, hippea-stnne, squamigerine and lgcoris-S-glucomannan.

【Nature and flavor】 Pungent; neutral; slightly toxic

【Functions and indications】Detoxification; expectorant; diuretic; emetic. It is used to treat sore throat, carbuncle, swelling, scrofula, cough with sputum, edema, urinary incontinence, and food poisoning.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1-3g; or squeeze out the juice to drink. For external use: take appropriate amount, mash and apply, squeeze the juice to apply or decoct it for fumigation and washing.

【Note】 Do not take this medicine if you have weak constitution or are pregnant; do not apply this medicine on those with damaged skin.

【Discussions by various scholars】 1. "Qunfangpu": "The color of Lucong is quite similar to that of Xuan, but it has no fragrance. It is named because deer like to eat it. However, the leaves and flower stems are different. The yellow leaves are green and pointed, while the Lucong leaves are round and emerald green. The Xuan leaves are as lush as the flowers, while the Lucong leaves wither and then bloom. Xuan has one solid stem, but five or six flowers bloom at the nodes; Lucong has one hollow stem, but five or six flowers are at the top; Xuan has six petals, while Lucong has seven or eight petals. The notes of Bencao say that it is the Lucong of today, which is wrong." 2. "Zunsheng Bajian": "Lucong flowers look like butterflies, with three large round petals and three small pointed petals, the color of onion lotus, white in the center, with red and yellow dots. They sway in the wind and have a charming charm. The roots and branches are in clusters."
