[Original form] Perennial herb, 50-80cm tall, or taller. The rhizome is procumbent, bamboo-whip-shaped, fleshy, white, with sunken stem scars between the nodes, and leaves are palmately compound, 3-5 in whorls at the top of the stem; petiole 8-11cm long; leaflets usually 5, leaf blade membranous, obovate-elliptic to oblong-elliptic, 5-18cm long, 2-6.5cm wide, apex acuminate, rarely long-acute, base cuneate to nearly rounded, margin serrulate or doubly serrulate, veins glabrous or sparsely bristly above, glabrous or sparsely densely hairy below. Umbel solitary at the top of the stem, with 50-80 flowers or more, peduncle 12-20cm long, glabrous or with sparse short soft hairs; flowers small, light green, pedicel about 10mm long; calyx green, 5 teeth at the apex, teeth triangular ovate; petals 5, long ovate, imbricately arranged; stamens 5, filaments shorter than petals; ovary inferior, 2-5 chambers, styles 2-5, united below the middle, separated above, curved outward when fruiting. The berries are drupe-like, spherical, red when ripe, and 5-7 mm in diameter. There are 2-5 seeds, which are white, triangular-ovate, and about 4.5 mm long. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from July to September.
