Taking Isatis root appropriately can achieve the therapeutic effect, especially the antibacterial, anti-allergic and anti-edema effects. However, more people will use Isatis root to relieve the symptoms of colds, which has a very significant effect on the treatment of colds.

Detoxification

Taking Isatis root, Coptis chinensis powder and Veratrum together (2.0g/kg each) for dogs can detoxify Veratrum and reduce the mortality rate; if it is used after Veratrum poisoning, it will be ineffective; using Isatis root powder or Coptis chinensis powder alone will also have poor effects.

a. To cook woad soup, when the woad seedlings grow to 15-20cm, you can wash them with the leaves and roots, and add some oil, salt and MSG like cooking cabbage. It will have a slightly bitter taste.

b. To stir-fry woad, first add some oil, chili, garlic, and onion, then add the chopped woad and stir-fry.

Isatis root contains indigo (indigotin, indigo), indirubin, anthraquinones, β-sitosterol, γ-sitosterol and various amino acids: arginine, glutamic acid, tyrosine, proline, valine and γ-aminobutyric acid. It also contains sinigrin, indoxyl-β-

hlucoside, trptanthrin, l-thiocyano-2-hydroxy-3-butene, epigoitrin, adenosine, palmitic acid, sucrose and proteoglycan containing 12% amino acids.

It also contains antibacterial substances and dynamic essence against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

It has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects[6]

Also known as: Big Blue Root. It is the dried root of the plant Isatis indigotica. It is slender and cylindrical, about 10 to 20 to 30 cm long and 3 to 8 mm in diameter. The surface is light gray-yellow, rough, with longitudinal wrinkles, transverse spots, and root scars. The root head is slightly swollen, with a depression at the top, surrounded by dark green petiole residues. The thicker roots have dense wart-like protrusions and gray-brown petiole scars arranged in a circle. The texture is firm and brittle, the cross section of the bark is yellowish white to light brown, and the wood is yellow. The smell is weak and the taste is slightly sweet. The best roots are those that are straight, thick, solid and powdery.
