[Source] Medicinal material source: the roots, leaves and bark of the blue tree of the Apocynaceae family.

【Original form】 Tree, 8-20m high. Except for the flowers, everything else is glabrous. The whole plant has latex, and the bark is dark gray with lenticels. Leaves opposite; petiole 5-7mm long; leaf blade thin papery, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 7-12m long, 2.5-5cm wide, apex acuminate to caudate-acuminate, base cuneate, glabrous on both sides; lateral veins 5-9 (rarely 11) on each side, posteriorly showing sewing machine-shaped wrinkles. Cymes terminal; bracts small, calyx short and thick, lobes 5. Shorter than corolla, with ovate glands at inner base; corolla white or light yellow, funnel-shaped, lobes 5, elliptic-oblong, covering to the left; corona split into 25-35 scales, fringed, fused at base; stamens 5. Attached to apex of corolla tube, anthers pubescent; ovary composed of 2 free carpels, flowers filiform, gradually increasing in size upwards, stigma capitate. The two fruits are free, cylindrical, 25-35cm long, and have spotted exocarp. The seeds are linear-lanceolate, 1.5-2cm long, with white silky hairs at the tip, 2-4cm long. The flowering period is from April to August, and the fruiting period is from July to March of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in villages, roadsides, sparse forests in mountains, or sunny places in valleys, in moist and fertile land.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The leaves are oblong-elliptical, 7-12cm long, 2.5-5cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, cuneate at the base, entire, with pinnate reticulate veins, and lateral veins with sewing machine-shaped wrinkles. Slight smell, slightly bitter taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly bitter; slightly astringent; cool in nature; toxic

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; stops bleeding and heals sores. Itch in cheeks; snake bites; bleeding from knife wounds; eczema; ulcers

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: soak in wine and drink in appropriate amount. For external use: take appropriate amount, mash and apply on the affected area or decoct in water for washing.
