[Source] Medicinal material source: the stems and leaves of the Rhamnaceae plant.

[Original form] A climbing shrub with hairy tips. The outside of the twigs, petioles, inflorescence axis, pedicels and calyx are densely covered with short brown hairs. Leaves are alternate; petiole 0.8-1.7cm long; leaf blade papery, ovate or broadly ovate, 4-11cm long, 2-6cm wide, acuminate at apex, cordate or rounded at base, entire or with fine obtuse serrations, filamentous pubescence above or along veins, rusty pubescence or gray filamentous pubescence below. Flowers are heterogamous, 5-merous, solitary or in clusters of several, in axillary or terminal cymose panicles, 30 cm long, with tendrils often in the leaf axils of the lower part of the inflorescence; sepal lobes are ovate-triangular, petals are obovate, with short claws at the base, and are the same length as the stamens; the disk is pentagonal, surrounding the ovary, with each corner extending into a tongue-like appendage; the ovary is inferior, hidden in the disk, 3-chambered, with a long style, 3 shallowly lobed or nearly half-cleft. The capsule is 8-9mm long, 9-10mm in diameter, with 3 wings and concave at both ends. There are 3 seeds, which are obovate, reddish brown and shiny. The flowering period is from July to September, and the fruiting period is from November to March of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in sparse woods or beside streams, often climbing on trees.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; astringes and stops bleeding. Mainly used for burns, carbuncle, furuncle, traumatic bleeding, eczema

[Usage and Dosage] For external use: take appropriate amount, mash and apply; or grind into powder and sprinkle; or mix with tea oil and apply.
