[Source] Medicinal material source: the root bark and stem bark of Rhododendron tomentosa, a plant of the Ericaceae family.

[Original form] Evergreen shrub or small tree, 3-8m high. The branches are slender, young branches are brown, and old branches are gray. The leaves are scattered or clustered in the upper part of the branches, nearly whorled; the petiole is 1-2cm long, slightly swollen at the base; the leaf blade is thin leathery, elliptic-lanceolate, or broadly inverted, 4-16cm long. 2-6cm wide, with acute or acuminate apex, cuneate or broad cuneate base, dark green and shiny surface, pale green on the back, glabrous on both sides; midrib concave on the surface, obviously raised on the back, slender lateral veins, more than 10-12 pairs. Inflorescence 1-3 branches, born in the leaves at the top of branches, each branch has 2-4 or several flowers, forming an umbrella-shaped inflorescence, the flowers are fragrant; calyx is small, 5-lobed, the lobes are triangular, 1-2mm long; corolla funnel-shaped bell-shaped, white or purple-red, 3-6cm long, 5-parted, the lobes are spreading; stamens 10, unequal length, filaments slender, the same length as the corolla or slightly shorter; pistil 1, ovary long ovate, 6-chambered, style 5.5cm long, stigma shield-shaped. The capsule is slender and cylindrical, 2.5-5cm long, slightly curved, with 6 edges, and dark brown when ripe. The flowering period is from December to March-April of the following year, and the fruiting period is from July to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in jungles at an altitude of 500-2000m.
