[Source] Medicinal material source: The rhizome or whole herb of Pteris sphenanthera, a plant of the Pteridaceae family.

[Original morphology] The rhizome is thick, cylindrical, and obliquely ascending. The leaves are dimorphic, with shorter nutrient leaves and petioles 20-30cm long, with 1-2 pairs of tubercle-like air sacs on both sides of the base; the leaf blades are oblong, papery, smooth, 32-45cm long, 13-18cm wide, and odd-pinnate; there are 14-16 pairs of pinnae, nearly opposite or alternate, obliquely upward, lanceolate, slightly sickle-shaped, 9-11cm long, 1-1.3cm wide, gradually pointed, with the lower edge almost entire and with shallow wavy fine serrations upward; the veins are single or bifurcated, reaching the edge of the leaf, with obvious bulges on both sides. The spore leaves are higher than the nutrient leaves, with a petiole of 50 cm long; the leaf blade is 30-40 cm long; the pinnae are 8-10 cm long, linear, with a longer petiole; the lateral veins are forked, extending to 1/2 of the distance from the leaf edge. Sporangia are borne on the tops of the veinlets and cover the underside of the pinnae when mature.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing under mountain forests at an altitude of 500-1200m.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash fresh product for application.
