[Source] Medicinal material source: The fruit of the alligator pear plant of the Lauraceae family.

[Original form] Avocado is an evergreen tree, about 10m tall. The current year's branchlets are densely covered with yellow-gray short hairs, while the 2nd year's branchlets are covered with brown short hairs. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 2-5cm long, slightly pubescent; leaf blades are oblong, ovate or obovate, 8-20cm long, 5-12cm wide, with acute apex, base cuneate-acute to nearly rounded, leathery, initially sparsely pubescent on the surface, then glabrous, usually slightly pale beneath, initially densely yellow-gray pubescent, then only slightly pubescent on the veins. The cymose-conical inflorescences are mostly grown at the lower part of the twigs; the flowers are bisexual; the perianth has 6 oblong lobes, 4-5mm long, obtuse at the apex, 9 fertile stamens, about 4mm long, filaments densely covered with sparse soft hairs, anthers have 4 chambers, obtuse at the apex, and 3 reduced stamens; the ovary is ovoid, about 1.5mm long, densely covered with sparse soft hairs, the style is 2.5mm long, densely covered with sparse soft hairs, and the stigma is disc-shaped. The fruit is large, usually pear-shaped, sometimes ovoid or spherical, 8-18cm long, yellow-green or reddish-brown, with a corky exocarp and an edible fleshy mesocarp. The flowering period is February-March, and the fruiting period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] It is native to tropical America and is now cultivated in large quantities in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places in my country.

【Cultivation】 1. Biological characteristics: It prefers tropical and subtropical climates. It has strong adaptability, is rough, fast-growing and relatively cold-resistant. It is not very demanding on soil, and good drainage, deep, fertile, loose loam is preferred. It is most afraid of waterlogging, so clay, soil that is easy to compact, or has too much lime content and low-lying areas are not suitable for cultivation.

[Chemical composition] The fruit of the camphor pear contains vitamins, fats, proteins and minerals; the flesh contains fatty oil (non-drying).

[Pharmacological action] 1. Effect on milk secretion: When sheep eat 20g/kg of fresh camphor pear leaves, milk secretion can be reduced. Microscopic examination shows extensive degeneration and necrosis of the secretory epithelium.

【Functions and indications】Produces body fluid and quenches thirst. Main diabetes
