[Source] Medicinal material source: The root or whole herb of Primula purpurea, a plant of the Primulaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb. Rhizome short, with numerous long roots. The base of the leaf cluster is wrapped by scales and petioles to form a pseudobulb, 4-9cm high; the scales are lanceolate, membranous when dry, brown-brown, and often covered with yellow powder at the top. The petiole has membranous broad wings, which are very short during the flowering period and gradually elongate, and can be as long as 1/2 of the leaf blade during the fruiting period; the leaf blade is oblong-ovate, oblong-lanceolate, lanceolate or oblanceolate, 5-25cm long, 1-5cm wide, with a sharp or obtuse tip, a gradually narrowed base, and small dentate margins or nearly entire. It is hard and papery when dry, and covered with golden powder on the underside. The pedicel is stout, 20-50cm high, covered with yellow powder near the top; with 1-4 whorls of umbels, 3 to many flowers in each whorl; the bracts are lanceolate to subulate, 5-15mm long, covered with powder on the ventral side, the pedicel is 1-2.5cm long, densely covered with bright yellow powder, slightly bent down when flowering, erect when fruiting, up to 6m long; the calyx is narrowly campanulate, 8-12mm long, split to the middle, the lobes are oblong-lanceolate, obtuse at the apex, sparsely covered with powder on the outside, densely covered with yellow powder on the inside; the corolla is purple-blue, white or gray around the throat, with a ring, the tube is up to 1.5cm long, the crown brim is 2.5-3.5cm in diameter, the lobes are broadly elliptic or nearly obovate, and the margin is entire: long-style flowers: the stamens are born in the middle of the crown tube. The style is slightly lower than the annular appendage at the throat; short-style flowers: the stamens are attached to the upper part of the crown tube, and the style only reaches the middle part of the crown tube. Capsule tubular, nearly twice as long as calyx. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from July to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in alpine grasslands, meadows, gravel beaches and rhododendron bushes at an altitude of 3000-4400m.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly bitter; slightly warm

【Functions and indications】 Disperses blood stasis and stops bleeding; eliminates malnutrition. Mainly used for postpartum lochia, metrorrhagia, and infantile malnutrition
