[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of Morinda officinalis, a plant of the Rubiaceae family.

[Original form] Large-fruited Morinda officinalis, a large climbing shrub, covered with long, spreading hairs that later turn light yellow. Leaves opposite; petiole very short; stipules membranous, 6-10mm long, sometimes with 2-3 bristle-like appendages; leaves elliptic or oblong, 7-12cm long, 3-5(-6.5)cm wide, apex short acuminate, base rounded or shallowly cordate, sparsely coarse hairs above, densely long soft hairs below, papery. The inflorescence is terminal and arranged in an umbel, consisting of 4-10 small capitulums, with a diameter of 6-8mm and 10-20 flowers; the peduncle is 1-3cm long and hairy; the calyx tube is nearly hemispherical, about 2mm long, 4-5-lobed at the apex, and the lobes are linear or triangular, of varying lengths and curved outwards; the corolla is high-footed saucer-shaped, 4-5mm long, with 4-5 lobes, oblong, 2-3mm long; the number of stamens is the same as the number of corolla lobes. The aggregate fruit is nearly spherical, 1-1.5cm in diameter, flattened at the tip, and red when ripe. Flowering period is May.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in wet land in mid-altitude valleys.
