[Original form] Tree, up to 40m high. Chest circumference over 2m. The bark is reddish brown and cracks into long strips and falls off; the large branches are nearly whorled, spreading flat or obliquely; the small branches are slender and drooping. The leaves are awl-shaped, 1-1.5 cm long, slightly curved inward, with inward-curved tips, and with stomatal lines on all four sides; the leaves of young trees and sprouting branches are up to 2.4 cm long. The male cones are solitary in the leaf axils, oblong, about 7 cm long. They grow in clusters on the upper part of twigs in short spike-like inflorescences; female cones grow on the top of short branches. Cone diameter 1.2-2cm; seed scales about 20, upper part with 4-5 (rarely 7) short triangular teeth, teeth 2-4mm long, bract tip 3-5mm long, developed seed scales with 2 seeds. The seeds are brown, nearly elliptical, flat, 4-6.5mm long and 2-3.5mm wide. The flowering period is April, and the cones mature in October-November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in the eastern part below 1000-1400m above sea level, and in the main part at 2000-2400m above sea level

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain kayaflavone, sci-adopitysin, hinokiflavone, sotetsu-flavone, cryptomerin, and volatile oils. The main components are terpenes, alcohols, acids, etc.
