Yuegua is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine and is very helpful for many diseases. Below we will give a brief introduction to Vietnamese melon.

[Other names] Vegetable melon, Shao melon (Yinshi Zhengyao), raw melon (Benjing Fengyuan), white melon (Bencao Qiuyuan).

[Source] It is the fruit of the Cucurbitaceae plant. The fruits are harvested when they are ripe in summer and autumn.

[Original morphology] Annual climbing or creeping herb. The stem is angular and covered with numerous spines. The leaves are alternate, ovate or nearly kidney-shaped, about 7 to 12 cm long, slightly equal in width to length, palmately lobed with 3 to 5 shallow lobes, the middle lobe is large and round, obtuse at the tip, cordate at the base, with irregular serrations on the edges, hairy on both sides, and palmate veins; the petiole is long and covered with spines. Flowers are monoecious; male flowers are clustered with long stalks; calyx is bell-shaped, 5-lobed, densely pubescent; corolla is yellow, 5-parted, lobes are elliptic, and pointed at the tip; stamens are 3, separate, inserted in the calyx tube, and filaments are very short. The female flower is solitary with a short pedicel; the ovary is inferior, ovate or oblong, with a short style, 3 stigmas, and many ovules. The gourd is fleshy; oblong in shape, with a smooth outer skin with longitudinal lines, greenish-white or light green; the flesh is white or light green, juicy and crisp. The seeds are white and small. Flowering period is from June to July. Fruiting period is July to August.

【Habitat distribution】Grows in warm areas. It is cultivated in many parts of my country.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, cold.
