【Original form】 1. Hainan Sterculia, small tree or shrub. Branchlets glabrous or only slightly stellately pubescent on young parts. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 1.5-2.5cm long, covered with sparse stellate hairs; leaf blades are oblong or linear-lanceolate, 1.5-23cm long, 2.5-6cm wide, obtuse or nearly acuminate at the apex, acute or obtuse at the base, glabrous on both sides; lateral veins are 13-18 pairs, curved, and connected away from the leaf margin. The flowers are red, arranged in racemes, axillary, 5-8cm long, slightly covered with stellate soft hairs; male flowers are about 8mm long; pedicels are 10-12mm long; calyx is 5-lobed to the base, the lobes are oblong or oblong-elliptical, about 6mm long, 2.5-3mm wide, and covered with sparse stellate hairs on the outside; androgynophore is curved, 4-5mm long; anthers are about 8 in number and arranged in 1 whorl; female flowers are slightly larger, about 10mm long, with a spherical ovary and a curved style.
