[Source] Medicinal material source: the root and root bark of Actinidia pubescens, a plant of the Actinidia family.

[Original morphology] Hairy-flowered kiwifruit is a deciduous vine with young branches, petioles, inflorescences and sepals densely covered with milky white or light yellow straight spreading hairs or interwoven and compressed cotton hairs; lenticels vary in size; pith is white and flaky. Simple leaves are alternate; petioles are short and thick, 1.5-3cm long; petioles are thick papery, ovate to broadly ovate, 8-16cm long, 6-11cm wide, with short acuminate apex, rounded, truncated or shallowly cordate base, with hard pointed teeth on the margin, scattered rough hairs on the upper side when young, and only a few rough hairs on the midrib and lateral veins later, and densely covered with milky white or light dirty yellow stellate hairs on the lower side. Cymes, with 1-3 flowers; flowers are unisexual, dioecious or unisexual and bisexual flowers coexist; sepals are 2-3, light green; petals are 5, light red, with orange-yellow top and edges; stamens are numerous, filaments are light red; ovary is spherical, densely covered with white hairs, and styles are filiform and numerous. The berry is columnar-ovoid, 3.5-4.5m long and 2.5-3m in diameter, densely covered with milky white hairs that do not fall off, with persistent sepals reflexed and fruit pedicels up to 15mm long. The flowering period is May-June, and the fruit ripening period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in mountain grass and sparse shrubs at an altitude of 250-1100m.

[Chemical composition] The root contains dauasierol, ursolicacid, β-sitcoterol, and eriantic acid A and B.

【Nature and flavor】 Light; slightly spicy; cold

【Functions and indications】Detoxification and swelling reduction; clearing away heat and removing dampness. It is used to treat carbuncle caused by heat toxin, breast abscess, aphonia caused by lung heat, dysentery caused by damp heat, stranguria, leucorrhea, rheumatic pain, stomach cancer, esophageal cancer, breast cancer, and traumatic injury.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 30-60g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
