[Original form] Vernonia is a perennial hard herb, 60-100cm tall or taller. The stem base is woody, erect, much-branched, with distinct striations, slightly rough, and densely glandular hairs. Leaves are alternate; petiole is extremely short or nearly sessile; leaf blade is oblanceolate or elliptic-oblong, 5-18cm long, 1-5cm wide, acuminate or acute at apex, narrow cuneate at base, sparsely serrated at margin, 7-8 pairs of lateral veins, veinlets are wind-shaped, veins are obvious underneath, and both sides have dense, rough yellow-brown hairs and glandular dots. Inflorescences are numerous, 5-8mm in diameter, usually 6-8 in number arranged in leafy umbels in axils or branch ends, with 6-12 flowers; pedicels 5-8mm, densely pubescent and glandular; involucre narrowly campanulate, about 6mm in diameter, with 4 layers of bracts, ovate or oblong, often purple at the apex, blunt and with a small tip, 1.5-6mm long, with sparse hairs or nearly glabrous; flowers are light reddish purple, corolla tubular, 6-7mm long, with narrow lanceolate short lobes on the upper part, and glandular on the outside. Achenes are oblong, about 2mm long, with 10 ribs, glabrous, with glandular dots between ribs; pappus is pale white, 1 layer, rough and hairy, about 7mm long. The flowering period is from September to February of the following year.
