Willow leaf herb is a famous traditional Chinese medicinal material with a long history of use. Today we will learn about the willow leaf seeing blood flying.

[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant or root of Clematis quinquefolia, a plant of the Ranunculaceae family.

[Original form] Clematis royal leaf, essentially a vine. Stems and branches striated; branchlets pubescent, glabrescent and glabrous. Leaves are opposite, once pinnate, with long petioles; leaflets 5, leaf blade thin leathery, oblong-lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate, oblong or ovate, 4-9cm long, 1-3.5cm wide, apex acuminate or acuminate, base rounded or cuneate, entire, glabrous on both sides, or slightly pubescent beneath. Cymes or racemose or paniculate cymes, ventral or terminal, with 3-10 flowers; peduncles and pedicels sparsely pubescent; flowers bisexual; sepals 4, spreading, nearly oblong or obovate-elliptic, 1-2cm long, white, pubescent outside, densely pubescent on margins, glabrous inside; petals absent; stamens numerous, filaments 4-5 times longer than anthers; carpels numerous, pubescent, styles silky hairs. Achenes are ovate or elliptical, flat, about 5 mm long, pubescent, and the persistent style is feathery, up to 6 cm long. The flowering period is from June to August, and the fruiting period is from July to September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: hillsides of habitat, roadsides, bushes and ditches.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The roots are slender and cylindrical, about 1mm in diameter, and several of them are clustered on irregular rhizomes. The stems are twined or segmented, with a green-brown surface or dry green tips and longitudinal ridges. Leaves are opposite, pinnately compound, with long petioles; there are 5 leaflets, ovate-lanceolate, gradually pointed at the apex, cuneate at the base, entire, smooth on both sides, and withered green; the petioles are often twisted; they grow thin and brittle and easily broken. Inflorescence sometimes visible. Slight smell, slightly bitter taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; warm

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and dampness; promote blood circulation and relieve pain. It is used to treat pain due to wind-heat, numbness of limbs, stomachache due to deficiency and cold, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, dysmenorrhea in women, amenorrhea, trauma, migraine, neuralgia, and facial nerve paralysis.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 10-15g; or soak in wine.
