[Source] The source of the medicinal material: the shell of the limpet family (insect relative).

[Original form] Jia (insect relative), the shell is in the shape of a hat, relatively low and flat, the shell height is equivalent to 1/3 of the shell length, the shell is relatively thin and almost translucent. The front part is slightly thinner, the edge is long oval, the top of the shell is close to the front, slightly curved forward, and often numb. The shell surface has numerous small and dense radial ribs, with corresponding fine teeth notches on the shell edge. The growth lines are slightly raised. The shell surface varies in color, usually rusty yellow with irregular brown or purple bands. The inside of the shell is silvery grey and shiny. There is a circle of brown or light blue muscle marks approximately in the middle from the shell top to the shell edge.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Lives in the intertidal zone, attached to rocks or coastal slabs in the coastal tidal zone.

[Properties] Identification by properties: the shell is in the shape of a conical hat. It is relatively low and flat, with the shell height being about 1/3 of the shell length. The top of the shell is slightly bent forward near the front and is often damaged. The forward slope of the highest point of the shell is relatively straight, and the backward slope is slightly raised. The outer surface of the shell is rusty yellow with irregular purple or brown spots. Many small and dense radial ribs can be seen, and the shell edge is finely serrated. The growth lines are thin and not very obvious; the inner surface of the shell is silvery gray and shiny, and the color of the outer surface of the shell can be clearly seen. The texture is thin and almost translucent. It has a faint smell and tastes slightly salty.

[Chemical composition] The shell of this product contains more than 10 kinds of amino acids, including glycine, arginine and a relatively large amount of aspartic acid. In addition, it also contains lipids, fatty acids are mainly C16:0 and C18:0, and sterols are mainly cholesterol.
