The efficacy and function of Anlu

Anlu is usually used as a medicinal ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine. This is also because of the medicinal value of Anlu itself, so today I will tell you about the relevant knowledge about Anlu.

[Other names] Anlu (Collected Annotations to Bencao Jing), Anlucao (Qianjin Yifang), Anluhao (Guanglifang), Yanchong (Lücanyan Materia Medica), Fulu (Compendium of Materia Medica), and Chouhao (Compilation of Medicinal Materials).

[Source] It is the whole herb of the Asteraceae plant Anlu . Cut the whole grass and dry it in August and September.

[Original morphology] Perennial herb with stem height of 30 to 90 cm. Leaves are alternate; leaves at the base are petiolate, broadly ovate, base cuneate, with coarse notched serrations of varying sizes on the margins; stem leaves are almost sessile, obovate, with notched serrations on the upper part, and thorny tips on the tooth ends; leaves become smaller as they go upwards, leaves at the tip are lanceolate, 2-3 shallowly lobed or undivided; leaves are relatively thick, green with fine hairs on the upper side, and light-colored and densely covered with cotton wool on the lower side. The pedicels grow between the leaf axils at the top of the stem and are gathered into racemose panicles. Each head inflorescence is spherical, 3-4 mm in diameter, often drooping, with 3-4 rows of involucres. The outer layer is small and ovate, the middle layer is larger and elliptical, all of which are glabrous. The outer florets of the receptacle are female, and the middle florets are bisexual, all of which are tubular and light yellow. The tips of the style branches of the bisexual florets are lanceolate and acuminate. Achenes about 2 mm long. Flowering period is from July to August.

[Habitat distribution] Grown under forests, on hillsides, and in shady and wet places in fields. Distributed in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Northeast China.

【Nature and flavor】Acrimonious, warm.

【Functions and indications】 Removes blood stasis and dispels dampness. Treats blood stasis, amenorrhea, traumatic injuries, and rheumatic pain in women.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5-1 liang; grind into powder or mash into juice for drinking.

[Additional prescription] ① To treat blood stasis that persists and turns into carbuncle: Take one liter of juice from fresh Artemisia selengensis, crush it and drink it. (Guangli Fang)
