[Original form] Evergreen tree, up to 25m tall, with a breast diameter of 55cm. The bark is light gray-yellow, dark gray or gray-brown, with irregular longitudinal cracks. The twigs are nearly opposite or whorled, the one-year-old twigs are green, the two- to three-year-old twigs are yellow-green, light brown or dark green-yellow, rarely light brown. The leaves are linear, usually straight, 1.1-2.5cm long and 2.5-4cm wide, with a convex tip or a thorny murk tip, a rounded base, light green above, an unclear midrib, two slightly obvious longitudinal grooves, light green below, the stomatal band is nearly as wide as the midrib band, and the green side band is as wide as or slightly wider than the stomatal band. Dioecious, male cones are solitary in leaf axils, female cones are born in pairs in leaf axils, each with 2 pairs of decussating bracts at the base and a small bract on the outside, ovules are erect, solitary on the aril. The seeds are elliptical, oval, obovate or oblong, 2-4.5cm long and 1.5-2.5cm in diameter. When ripe, the aril is light purple-brown with white powder, a small convex tip at the tip, and the endosperm is slightly wrinkled. The flowering period is April and the seeds mature in October of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in warm and humid yellow soil, red soil and yellow-brown loam, mixed in forests.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain β-sitosterol, 6-hydroxydehydroabietinol and torreyagrandate. The branches contain anti-tumor flavonoid compounds: torreyaflavone and torreyaflavonoside.
