[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Adiantum officinale, a plant of the Adiantum family.

【Original morphology】 Plant height 6-12cm. The rhizome is short and erect, with densely purple-brown, linear-lanceolate scales at the top. Leaves are clustered; petiole is 2-6cm long, brown to purple-brown, shiny; leaf blade is papery, glabrous, narrowly oblong, 3.5-8cm long, 2-3cm wide, obtuse at apex, nearly rounded at base, once pinnate; pinnae are 3-5 pairs, alternate, petiole apex jointed, obovate or oblong, 5-15mm long, 3-12mm wide, nearly rounded at apex, cuneate at base, terminal pinnae obovate, grayish white on the back, rachis slender, apex sometimes extended, rooting on the ground, asexual reproduction; venation radiates, veinlets dichotomous. The sori are round or oblong, dorsally located in the notch at the pinna apex, one per pinna; the sori lid is transversely oblong or reniform, brown, leathery, and persistent.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown on moist limestone walls or chalk in caves at an altitude of 600-1500m.
