[Source] It is the leaves or young shoots of the Rubiaceae plant. Available all year round.

[Original form] Bellows tree, also known as: water bayberry (from "Essentials of Raw Medicinal Herbs"), pearl flower tree, chicken wood, horse smoke tree, water hugging tree, large-leaf water bayberry, false peach.

[Habitat distribution] It grows by streams, ditches, fields, low-lying barren slopes, and wet places. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Zhejiang, Yunnan, Jiangxi and other places.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, cool.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies, absorbs dampness and relieves itching. Treat itchy skin sores, mouth sores, pemphigus, rotten toes, bruises, toothache, dysentery, and enteritis.

【Usage and Dosage】 For external use: mash and apply or grind into powder and apply. For internal use: decoct in water, 3-5 qian.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating mouth ulcers: Mash the leaves of water bayberry and apply them to the affected area, and use the roots to boil water for oral administration.

[Clinical Application] Treatment of acute gastroenteritis and bacillary dysentery: Take 15 jin of large-leaf bayberry, add 27000 ml of water, boil until 9000 ml, add 20 liang of mint and boil again, so that every 90 ml of concentrated liquid contains 1.5 liang of large-leaf bayberry and 2 qian of mint. Adults take 50-60 ml, 3-4 times a day; children take a smaller dose. If accompanied by abdominal pain, acupuncture Zusanli (bilateral); if accompanied by nausea and vomiting, acupuncture Neiguan (bilateral); those who have lost water need fluid replacement. 42 cases were treated, and most showed efficacy within 1 to 2 days.
