[Source] Medicinal material source: The shell of the swimming crab, Portunidae.

[Original form] The three-spotted swimming crab has a fusiform cephalothorax, which is generally about 82mm long and 150mm wide. Slightly raised, with scattered fine granules on the surface, one transverse granular line in the stomach area, and one each in the left and right gill areas. There are 3 warty protrusions, 1 in the mid-stomach region and 2 smaller ones in the cardiac region. The forehead is flat and divided into two sharp teeth, which are slightly smaller than the inner teeth on the dorsal edge of the eye socket; the outer teeth on the dorsal edge of the eye socket and the inner teeth on the ventral edge are both large and pointed. The supraorbital ridge is exposed between the two frontal teeth. There are 9 teeth on the anterior margin including the external eye socket, and the last teeth are particularly large and relatively fusiform. The chelipeds are well developed, with long prismatic segments, 4 sharp spines on the front edge, 1 spine on the inner and outer ends of the carpus, and the palm segment is very long in the male, with 1 spine on the front end of each of the two ridges on the back, 1 spine on the outer base angle, and blunt teeth on the inner edges of both knuckles. The fourth pair of legs is paddle-shaped, with short and wide carpus, flat front segment and phalanges, and short hairs on the edges of each segment. The male is blue-green and the female is dark purple.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: It often lives in the muddy and sandy seabed at a depth of 10-30m. It likes to eat animal carcasses, small fish and shrimps, and seaweed. The spawning season is from April to early July. This is the edible crab with the largest production in my country.
