【Original form】 Shrubs to small trees. The twigs are covered with coarse bran-like hairs when young, while the old branches are bare and have lenticels. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate or rectangular, 12 to 22 cm long, 3 to 8 cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, obtuse or rounded at the base, serrated at the edges, dark green on the surface, turning black when dry, covered with gray-brown hairs on the underside, with 14 to 18 pairs of lateral veins. The cyme is long, 8-12 cm in diameter, and branched 7-9 times; the inflorescence stalk is 6-9 cm long; the pedicel is about 1 mm long; the bracts are linear, caducous, and occasionally leaflet-like; the calyx is small, bare, and truncated; the corolla is purple, 2.5 mm long, tubular, 4-lobed, and bare; the stamens are 4, prominent, and the anther locules are longitudinally fissured; the ovary is superior and has 4 chambers. The fruit is spherical, 1.5 to 2 mm in diameter, and turns black when dry. Flowering season all year round.
