The spleen is a relatively important organ in our body. According to the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the spleen is responsible for transporting and transforming water and moisture. If the spleen is damaged and cannot transport and transform water and moisture normally, it will cause water and moisture to stay and accumulate in the body, slowly forming phlegm. This is the reason why spleen deficiency causes phlegm in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In daily life, we must pay special attention not to eat too greasy and cold food, as this will have a certain harmful effect on the spleen function. Three Types of Phlegm in Traditional Chinese Medicine 1. Spleen deficiency causes phlegm That is, the phlegm caused by spleen deficiency. This kind of phlegm is the phlegm that people often spit out when they cough. It is a tangible phlegm. It actually does not originate from the lungs, but from the spleen. The spleen is the source of phlegm, and the lungs are the organ that stores phlegm. Some people often take cough medicine, but the phlegm can never be eliminated. The reason is that the lungs are not the source of phlegm. Therefore, in order to eradicate phlegm, it is necessary to strengthen the spleen and eliminate dampness. 2. Qi stagnation causes phlegm That is, phlegm caused by qi stagnation. The most common manifestations of phlegm caused by qi stagnation in the body are lipomas and cysts, which are called phlegm nodules in traditional Chinese medicine. Lipoma may seem like a tangible thing, but it is actually the result of qi stagnation. Also, things like flat warts are also related to qi stagnation. 3. Blood stasis causes phlegm That is bloody sputum. "Phlegm covering the heart" refers to bloody sputum, which is now commonly referred to as high blood lipids. The blood flows slowly and stagnates, then accumulates and forms high blood lipids. Strategies for phlegm elimination 1. Frequently press Fenglong acupoint to eliminate phlegm Efficacy: Fenglong point is an acupuncture point on the Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming. It is often used to treat cough and sputum. It can transform both visible and invisible sputum. Acupoints: Find the knee pit and outer ankle on the outside of the leg, connect them into a line, and then take the midpoint of this line. Next, find the tibia on the leg, 1.5 inches (the width of two fingers) outside the front edge of the tibia, and align it with the midpoint just now. massage: Place the tip of your thumb on the Fenglong point, apply vertical force, press downward, rub it, and flex and extend the ankle joint to allow the stimulation to fully reach the deep layer of the muscle tissue, producing sensations such as soreness, numbness, swelling, pain, heat, and moving. After a few seconds, gradually relax. Repeat this operation several times, alternating left and right. Press for 5 minutes each time. Once a day. Moxibustion: Usually it is supine or sitting position. After lighting the moxa stick, place it above the Fenglong point, about 2 to 3 cm away from the skin, so that the warm feeling can spread to deep and far places without burning pain. Generally, each moxibustion lasts for 10 to 15 minutes, until there is local flushing. Moxibustion once every other day. Apply medicine: First, massage the Fenglong point on the right side with your hands or tap it with a small health hammer for 5 minutes. Press it more if there is phlegm. |
