Source: Gelsemium elegans (Gardn. et Champ.) Benth., a plant of the Loganaceae family, is used as medicine with its roots, leaves and whole herb. The roots can be harvested throughout the year, washed and dried. The leaves and whole herb are collected in summer and autumn and sun-dried.

Toxicity: This product contains a variety of extremely toxic gelsinone, which can be fatal if ingested accidentally. The poisoning may cause dizziness, severe pain in the throat and abdomen, foaming at the mouth, dilated pupils, jaw detachment, muscle weakness, heart and respiratory failure and death. Rescue method: Take comprehensive treatment immediately, including gastric lavage, warmth preservation, artificial respiration, and use of stimulant drugs in the early stage.

Folk rescue methods

Use duck feathers dipped in peanut oil to swab the throat to induce vomiting, and then take a small cup of peanut oil after vomiting;

· Take 1 large bowl of fresh duck blood or goose blood;

· Take 3 duck eggs, mix the egg white with peanut oil and drink it orally;

8 fresh Masson pine treetops (leafless), 1 handful of leek (whole herb), 0.5-1 liang of centipede (elk antler). Mash them together, add half a bowl of water, and take the filtrate;

·1 jin of water spinach root and stem (leaves removed), mash and squeeze out the juice for oral administration;

· Mash fresh Centella asiatica and mix with tea oil and drink orally;

·Crush the honeysuckle and leaves, squeeze out the juice and mix with brown sugar, then drink it orally.

Nature and flavor are bitter, pungent and warm. Very poisonous.

Functions and indications: attacking and removing toxins, dispersing blood stasis and relieving pain, killing insects and relieving itching. For external use, it can be used to treat skin eczema, tinea corporis, tinea pedis, bruises, fractures, hemorrhoids, furuncles, and leprosy. It can also kill maggots and mosquito larvae.

Dosage and Administration: For external use, mash the fresh product and apply to the affected area, or boil it in water and wash with it.

Note: Do not take internally.
