Leaves are opposite; with short petioles; leaf blades are oblong-ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 1.5-4 cm long, 7-13 mm wide, obtuse or slightly pointed at the apex, nearly truncated or broadly cuneate at the base, with obtuse teeth on the margin, covered with fine short hairs on both sides, and with glandular dots on the underside. The flowers grow in the axils of leaves at the upper part of the stem, in whorls of 6 flowers, with the whorl at the top of the stem denser and spike-like; the bracts are long-oval-cuneate, with slender awn-like prickles below the edge, and the bracteoles are oblong-cuneate, with long awn-like prickles on the edges; the calyx is lip-shaped, with the upper lip 3-lobed and the lower lip 2-lobed; the corolla is light blue-purple, lip-shaped, 1.8-2.5 cm long, the upper lip is slightly curved downward, with a notch at the top, the lower lip is 3-lobed, the middle lobe is larger and 2-lobed; there are 4 stamens, 2 strong; the stigma is 2-lobed. Flowering period is from June to August. The fruiting period is from August to September.

[Habitat distribution] It often grows in dry land, and is commonly found in fields, roadsides, fixed sand dunes, grasslands, etc. Distributed in Liaoning, Jilin, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu and other places.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3 to 5 qian (1 liang for fresh product).
