[Source] Medicinal material source: the tubers and roots of the Chinese lantern flower of the Ericaceae family.

[Original form] Epiphytic shrub, 60-100cm high. The base of the stem usually enlarges into a thick and fat tuber, and the roots are mostly spindle-shaped. The branches are slender and densely covered with flat bristles. Simple leaves are alternate; petioles are short and slightly pubescent; leaf blades are leathery, elliptical, 0.7-1.5cm long, 6-8mm wide, with sharp or blunt tips, cuneate or rounded bases, and finely serrated edges on the upper half. Flowers are solitary in leaf axils, pedicels and calyx tubes are covered with gray short soft hairs, with a few scattered glandular bristles; calyx tube brim is 4mm long, deeply lobed; lobes are triangular; acute, with obvious veins; corolla is cylindrical, 2-2.8cm long, dark red, lobes are triangular, and the tip is dark green; there are 10 stamens, filaments are about 1.5mm long, and the back of the anthers is without spurs; ovary is inferior, style is slender, glabrous, and stigma is truncated. The fruit is small, 4mm in diameter. The flowering period is from January to June, and the fruiting period is July.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: epiphytic on old trees or rocks in evergreen forests at an altitude of 1500-1800m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; Cool

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation and relieve pain; clear away heat and remove dampness. Mainly used for traumatic injuries; rheumatic pain; stomachache; hepatitis; edema; unknown swelling and toxicity

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g; or soak in wine. For external use: take appropriate amount, crush the fresh product and apply; or grind it into powder and apply.
