[Original form] Rusty-leaved Litsea cubeba is a tree, 8-12m tall. Branchlets are whorled or nearly whorled, densely covered with rusty hairs when young; terminal buds are ovate, with scales covered with rusty short hairs outside. There are 3-5 leaves arranged in nearly whorls; petiole 1-1.5cm long, densely covered with rusty hairs; leaf blade oblong-lanceolate, oblong-elliptic or lanceolate, 10-17cm long, 3-6cm wide, apex nearly caudate-acuminate or pointed, base cuneate, leathery, young leaves densely covered with rusty hairs on both sides, which gradually fall off later. When old, only the midrib at the base has soft hairs on the upper side, and there are soft hairs along the veins on the lower side, and the rest are glabrous. Umbels are clustered in leaf axils or branch sides; flowers are unisexual and dioecious; male flowers have 4 tepals, ovate, densely rusty long hairs on the outside and edges, and long hairs at the base inside; 6 fertile stamens, exserted, with long hairs at the base of filaments, reduced pistils glabrous, and styles slender; female flowers have linear or ovate-lanceolate tepals, with pubescent bases of reduced stamens, ovary oval, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, style pubescent, stigma shield-shaped, 2-lobed. The fruit is spherical, 8-10mm in diameter; the fruit receptacle is flat and disc-shaped, 2-3mm in diameter, with perianth segments often remaining on the edge; the fruit pedicel is about 7mm long and has soft hairs. The flowering period is from October to December, and the fruit ripening period is from July to August of the following year.
