Baihua Zhumucai is a common Chinese medicine. It can be used for medicinal purposes as well as for food. Moreover, the effects and functions of Baihua Zhumucai are quite comprehensive. Let's take a look at it together. [Other names] Snake scales, white line grass [Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Bacopa monnieri of the Scrophulariaceae family. [Original form] Creeping herb. The roots grow at the nodes, are more or less fleshy and hairless, and look very similar to purslane. Leaves are opposite; sessile; leaf blade is oblong-oblanceolate, 8-20mm long, 3-6mm wide, with obtuse tip, rarely toothed, and entire margin. Flowers solitary in leaf axils; pedicels 0.5-3.5cm long; a pair of linear bracts under the calyx; 5 sepals, completely separate, imbricately arranged, the front and rear two are wider, ovate-lanceolate, the remaining 3 are lanceolate to linear, about 5mm long; corolla bell-shaped, blue, purple or white, 8-10mm long, with inconspicuous 2 lips, the upper lip 2-lobed, the lower lip 3-lobed; 4 stamens, didyna, the anther locules are fully developed, parallel and separate; stigma capitate. Capsule ovate-conical, shorter than persistent calyx, septately 2-lobed. The seeds are elliptical-conical, truncated at one end, shiny yellow-brown, and have vertical ridges on the surface. Flowering period is from May to October. [Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows near water and in beach wetlands. 【Chemical composition】 1. The whole plant contains hersaponin, bacoside A and bacoside B. Bacogenin A and B have the same structure, but glycoside A is the left-handed isoform and glycoside B is the right-handed isoform. After acid hydrolysis, D-glucopyranose, L-arabinopyranose and bacogenin A1, A2, A3, and A4 are obtained. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The whole plant also contains D-mannitol, betulinic acid, stigmastanol, stigmasterol, β-sitosterol, heptacosane, octacosane, nonacosane, triacontane, hentriacontane, and dotriacontane. [Pharmacological action] 1. Effect on the central nervous system: The ethanol extract of Scutellaria baicalensis was gavaged to rats (40 mg/kg) for 3 consecutive days, and the effect of the product on the learning and memory of rats was observed using electric shock light discrimination reaction, active conditioned escape reaction and multiple trained avoidance reaction. The results showed that this product could significantly promote memory acquisition and memory consolidation in normal rats. Intraperitoneal injection of Bacopa monnieri saponins has a sedative effect on mice, but has no protective effect on electric shock in rats or pentylenetetrazole convulsions in mice, nor does it reduce the toxicity of pentylenetetrazole. However, it can inhibit the effect of reserpine in enhancing the toxicity of pentylenetetrazole and reduce the toxicity of amphetamine to mice. Bacopa monnieri saponins can also synergize with cyclohexylbarbital, pentobarbital and ethanol to produce a hypnotic effect on mice, and have the effect of lowering the body temperature of mice. When the ambient temperature rises from 20℃ to 37℃, the synergistic hypnotic effect is significantly weakened. Pre-treatment with d-lysergic acid diethylamide partially inhibits its synergistic hypnotic effect, which is similar to that of reserpine. The authors suggest that Bacopa monnieri may have a sedative effect. [Toxicity] The median lethal dose of the alcohol extract of this product when injected intraperitoneally into rats is 331 mg/kg, and the median lethal dose of the glycosaponins it contains when injected intraperitoneally into rats is 25.1 mg/kg. This dose can cause pulmonary hemorrhage and fatty degeneration of the liver. 【Nature and flavor】 Slightly sweet; light; cold in nature 【Functions and indications】 Clears heat and cools blood; detoxifies and reduces swelling. Mainly used for dysentery; red and swollen eyes; swollen and painful hemorrhoids; elephantiasis [Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g. For external use: take appropriate amount and decoct in water for washing. 【Excerpt】 Chinese Materia Medica Above we introduced what white flowered pig mother vegetable is.
