[Original form] Perennial upright herb, 30-100cm high. Stem cylindrical. Much branched; lower branches nearly opposite, densely pollinated. Simple leaves are alternate; with short petioles; leaf blades are rhombic-ovate to ovate-oblong, 2-3cm long, 1-2cm wide, obtuse at the apex with a short tip, base broadly cuneate to cuneate and extending below the petiole, powdery on both sides, grayish white underneath, with slightly 3 shallow lobes on the margins. The cymes are axillary and integrated into small spike-like panicles at the top of the branches; the perianth of the male flowers is deeply lobed into 5 parts, with 5 stamens; the bracts of the female flowers are broadly ovate in shape of rhombus when the fruit is ripe, and the edges of the fruit bracts are only fused at the base, corky and swollen when the fruit is ripe, without appendages, and with triangular serrations on the edges. The fruit is flat or biconvex, with a membranous, light yellow pericarp that is attached to the seed. Seeds reddish brown. Flowering and fruiting period is from September to December.
