[Source] This product is the dried aerial part of Polygonum aviculare L., a plant of the Polygonaceae family . Harvest in summer when the leaves are lush, remove roots and impurities, and dry in the sun.

[Properties] The stem of this product is cylindrical and slightly flat, with branches, 15 to 40 cm long and 0.2 to 0.3 cm in diameter. The surface is gray-green or brown-red, with fine and slightly raised longitudinal lines; the nodes are slightly swollen, with light brown membranous stipules, and the internodes are about 3 cm long; it is hard and easy to break, and the pith is white in cross section. The leaves are alternate, nearly sessile or with short petioles. Most of the leaf blades fall off or are wrinkled or broken. The intact ones are lanceolate when flattened, with entire margins, and both sides are brown-green or gray-green. Odorless, slightly bitter taste.

【Identification】 (1) The powder of this product is gray-green in color. The pericytes of the epidermal cells on the upper and lower leaves are nearly straight, and the pericytes have horny lines. The main stoma is unequal, and there are 3 secondary cells. The cross section of the mesophyll is palisade-like on both sides, and the thin-walled cells contain clusters of calcium oxalate crystals with a diameter of 18 to 43 μm.
