[Source] It is the vine of the batryticatus plant of the Menispermaceae family. Cut the vine stems from August to November and dry them in the sun.

[Original form] Perennial twining herb, up to several meters long, the whole plant is almost hairless. The rhizome is long, thick and yellowish brown. Branchlets longitudinally striated. The leaves are alternate, long-petiolated, shield-shaped, heart-shaped at the base, acute at the apex, 6-12-15 cm long, 6-12-17 cm wide, green above, light beneath, with fine hairs on young leaves, which later become smooth or have yellow-green hairs on the back. The flowers are axillary, small in shape, 3 to 4 mm in diameter, yellow-green in color, and dioecious. The male flowers usually have 6 sepals, 6 to 9 petals, and about 20 stamens; the female flowers usually have 3 carpels. The drupe is kidney-shaped, about 1 cm in diameter, and black. Flowering period is from May to June. Fruiting period is July to August.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on hillsides, roadsides and bushes. Distributed in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian and other places. Produced in Jiangsu.

[Properties] Dry vine stem, cylindrical, 2 to 10 mm in diameter. The surface is yellow-brown to black-brown, with obvious longitudinal grooves, and leaf marks, lateral branch marks or bud marks on the nodes; the texture is hard, the broken surface is fibrous, the cortex is easy to peel off, the xylem vessels are hole-shaped, and there is white pith in the center. Sometimes the base is slightly cylindrical with rhizomes, 12 to 24 mm in diameter, gray-brown or brown in surface, rough, with longitudinal lines and root marks; hard in texture, floury in cross section, off-white in color, with obvious holes in the xylem vessels.
