[Chemical composition] Among the fatty acids in soybean oil, saturated ones generally account for about 10%, and the rest are unsaturated fatty acids. The former is mainly stearic acid and palmitic acid, while the latter is mainly linoleic acid, oleic acid and linolenic acid. The remaining components (1.5-2.5%) are mainly phospholipids.

【Nature and flavor】 ① "Compendium of Materia Medica": "spicy, sweet, hot, slightly toxic."

【Functions and indications】 Deworming and laxative. Treat intestinal obstruction and constipation.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: Stew and drink warm, 1 to 2 liang. For external use: apply to affected area or mix medicine.

[Clinical Application] Treatment of intestinal obstruction: first use a gastrointestinal decompression tube to drain the gastric contents, and then inject constant temperature soybean oil through the gastric tube or take it orally. Dosage: 60-80 ml for 1-2 years old, 80-100 ml for 2-5 years old, 100-150 ml for 6-10 years old, 150-200 ml for those over 10 years old. At the same time, hot compresses should be applied to the abdomen, and fluids should be given if necessary to correct electrolyte imbalances and control infections. If the therapeutic effect is not significant after 4 to 6 hours, soybean oil can be given 1 to 2 more times. Perform a low-pressure enema with hypertonic saline or soapy water 2 to 4 hours after using soybean oil. Generally, the effect will be seen after 1 to 2 uses. Otherwise, it may not be effective even if used multiple times. If there is no definite therapeutic effect or the condition worsens within 24 to 36 hours after using soybean oil, surgical treatment should be considered. A total of 130 cases of acute intestinal obstruction (including adhesion, ascariasis and strangulation) were treated with the above method, and 93 cases were cured, including 84 cases who were successful in one treatment, 11 cases in two treatments, and 3 cases in three treatments; a total of 32 cases were treated surgically due to ineffectiveness. It has been observed in practice that soybean oil therapy is most effective for general adhesive and ascariasis intestinal obstruction, with 78 of the 98 successful cases belonging to this type; but it is mostly ineffective for hand strangulation intestinal obstruction, with 24 of the 32 failed cases belonging to this type. Also use 60 ml of soybean oil. Add appropriate amount of lotus root powder to make a paste, and take it three times a day. It was used to treat 12 cases of ascariasis intestinal obstruction. The ascariasis were expelled within 8 to 12 hours after taking the medicine; the abdominal pain improved within 24 hours, and the cord-like masses in the abdomen also gradually subsided; the abdominal pain disappeared within 48 hours, and the cord-like masses in the abdomen disappeared. There are no other adverse reactions after taking the medicine except increased frequency of bowel movements.
