[Original form] Blue flowered water melon is a perennial climbing herb. It has spindle-shaped tuberous roots containing starch. The stem is slender, cylindrical, with fine ridges and densely covered with soft hairs. Simple leaves are alternate; petiole is 0.4-2cm long, densely pubescent; leaf blade is rhombic or rhombic-ovate, 3-4.5cm long, 1.5-3cm wide, apex is acuminate or acute, with a small tip, base is cuneate, entire, both sides are densely covered with yellow-brown silky hairs; lateral veins are 7-9 pairs, nearly parallel and not curved. Cymes are axillary, with 1-3 flowers, or with multiple flowers due to dichotomous branching of peduncle; bracts and bracteoles are scale-like; sepals are 5, unequal in length, the outer 2 are obovate-oblong, 0.8-1.2cm long, with short pointed tips, the inner sepals are obovate or elliptical, 1.3-1.4cm long, with obtuse tips; corolla is light blue, narrowly bell-shaped, 3.5-4cm long, with short triangular brims, sparsely covered with yellow-brown hairs; stamens are 5. Filaments of unequal length, base enlarged and hairy; ventricle glabrous, 2-locular, style slender, stigma 2-globose. Capsule oblong, 4-valved. Seeds black, hairless.
