[Source] This product is the dried aerial part of Desmodium styracifolium (Osh.) Merr. of the Leguminosae family . Harvested in summer and autumn, impurities removed and sun-dried.

[Properties] The stem of this product is cylindrical, up to 1m long, densely covered with yellow, stretched short soft hairs, slightly brittle, with pith in the middle of the cross section. Leaves are alternate, with 1 or 3 leaflets, round or rectangular, 2-4 cm in diameter; apex slightly concave, base cordate or obtuse, entire margin; upper surface yellow-green or gray-green, glabrous, lower surface with gray-white closely attached hairs, lateral veins pinnate; petiole 1-2 cm long; stipules 1 pair, lanceolate, about 0.8 cm long. It has a slight fragrance and a slightly sweet taste.

[Identification] (1) Take 2g of crude powder, add 30ml of water, boil for 10 minutes, filter, evaporate the filtrate to dryness, add 2ml of ethanol to dissolve, then add a small amount of magnesium powder and 0.5ml of hydrochloric acid, and it will turn reddish brown.
