[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Salvia linguae, a plant of the Lamiaceae family.

[Original form] Sage is an annual erect herb, 30-70cm tall. Roots fibrous, dense. The stem is obtusely quadrangular, with slightly sparse soft hairs on the ridges. The leaves are basal leaves and stem leaves. The basal leaves have long petioles, 2-3cm long; there are about 3 pairs of stem leaves, the lower pair has long petioles, up to 3cm long, shortening upwards, and the upper pair has short petioles or is sessile; the upper leaves are lanceolate, 2-7cm long, 1-2.8cm wide, with pointed or acute tips, rounded bases, green with purple above, purple below, scattered rough hairs above, short soft hairs only along the veins below, and the rest are glabrous, with shallow round teeth on the edges. The cyme has 2-12 flowers, forming a raceme biased to one side at the top of the stem, and the inflorescence is 10-25cm long; the calyx is bell-shaped, covered with long soft hairs on the outside, two-lipped, the upper lip is triangular, and the lower lip is split into 2 teeth, the teeth are triangular; the corolla is light pink, covered with sparse soft hairs on the outside, the crown brim is one-lipped, the upper lip is straight and oblong, the lower lip is triangular in outline, 3-lobed, the middle lobe is smaller and tongue-shaped; there are 2 fertile stamens, and the filaments are glabrous; the reduced stamens are club-shaped; the tip of the style is 2 shallowly lobed. The nutlets are oval, 2mm long, 0.8mm in diameter, and brown. Flowering period is June.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on the roadside of the forest edge on the hillside at an altitude of about 800m.
