[Source] Medicinal material source: The stems and leaves of the long-leaf waterhemp plant of the Urticaceae family.

[Original form] Deciduous shrub, 1-3m high. The twigs are cylindrical, with shallow grooves, densely covered with white or light yellow rough hairs, and the leaves are alternate. The petiole is 1-4cm long. The leaf blade is lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 9-21cm long, 2-6cm wide, with a pointed or caudate-acuminate tip, a rounded base, and finely serrated edges. The upper surface is rough, sometimes with bubble-like protrusions, sparsely covered with short hairs, and the lower surface is densely covered with grayish-white felt hairs. There are 3 basal veins, 4-6 pairs of lateral veins, and the reticular veinlets are prominent. Flowers are unisexual, dioecious, inflorescences mostly borne in the axils of leaf scars, 1-2(-3) times bifurcated branches, each branch topped with a spherical cyme, peduncles covered with extended short hairs; male flowers have 4 tepals, about 1.5-2mm long, 4 stamens, bracteoles shorter than tepals; female flower clusters are 2-3mm in diameter, female flowers are obovate, tepals are tubular, with 4 teeth at the apex. The infructescence is 3-5mm in diameter; the achenes are small, about 0.8-1.5mm long, and the persistent tubular perianth is orange-red and fleshy. The flowering period is from May to August, and the fruiting period is from August to December.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in river valleys at an altitude of 800-2000m, sunny places on the edges of hillside ditches or moist places on the edge of forests.

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and relieve cough; clear away heat and remove dampness. Mainly used for colds, coughs, heat rheumatism, cystitis, unknown swelling, and toothache

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash fresh product for application.
