[Original form] Phoebe yunnanensis is a tree, up to 30m tall. The branches are cylindrical with longitudinal stripes, green when young and covered with wax powder, and brown and glabrous when old. Leaves are alternate and sparse; petiole is 1-1.7cm long and glabrous; leaf blade is obovate or obovate-elliptic, sometimes elliptical, (5-)7-9(-12)cm long, (2-)3.5-4(-5)cm wide, apex short and acuminate, base cuneate, sometimes asymmetrical on both sides, leathery, green or yellow-green, shiny above, light green or pink-green beneath, glabrous on both sides. The panicle is 1.5-2.5cm long, glabrous, covered with wax powder, clustered on short leafless branches of the current year, or on the lower part of branchlets of the current year; the pedicel is slender and glabrous; the bracts and bracteoles fall off early. The flowers are light green, yellow-green or topaz white, 4-5mm long; the perianth is 3-4mm long, pubescent inside, with 6 perianth lobes, arranged in 2 whorls, the outer whorl is slightly shorter, 3.5-4mm long, and the inner whorl is 4-4.5mm long; there are 9 fertile stamens, arranged in 3 whorls, with filaments pubescent at the base, anthers with 4 chambers, stamens in the third whorl slightly longer, and the base of the reduced stamens with long pubescence; the pistil is glabrous, the ovary is ovoid, 1.5mm long, the style is filiform, nearly as long as the ovary, and the stigma is small and capitate. The fruit is oval, about 1.4 cm long, with a small tip at the tip. It is dark blue when ripe, with white powder and is hairless. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is June-October.
