[Original form] Actinidia sutchuenensis vine, up to 7m long. Young branches purple-brown or black, glabrous or with short hairs when very young; medullary septa lamellar, brown. Simple leaves are alternate; petioles are slender, purple-brown, 2-5cm long, glabrous or scattered with short soft hairs; leaf blades are membranous or thin papery, with a large white or light red patch at the tip of some leaves, sometimes extending below the middle, ovate or oblong-ovate, 6-15cm long, 3-12.5cm wide, acuminate at the tip, cordate at the base, rarely nearly truncated, usually asymmetrical, with bristle-like serrations on the margins, glabrous on both sides or with scattered bristles on the upper side or with soft hairs along the veins on the lower side, especially on the lower part of the midrib, with 6-8 pairs of lateral veins. Cymes are axillary, usually with 1-3 flowers; flowers are unisexual, dioecious or unisexual and bisexual flowers coexist; bracts are small and subulate; sepals are 5, ovate or oblong, glabrous, rarely slightly pubescent, and more or less united at the base; petals are 5, rarely 4 or 6-7, white or light red, oblong, rounded at the apex, cuneate at the base; stamens are numerous, anthers are yellow, nearly arrow-shaped; ovary is glabrous, style is filiform, numerous. The berries are spherical or oblong-ovate, 2-2.5 cm in diameter, glabrous and spotless. The flowering period is May-June, and the fruiting period is August-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in mountain forests or shrubs at an altitude of 1600-3500m.

[Properties] Identification by properties: The berries are columnar-oblong, ovate or spherical, some are oblate and up to 2.5 cm long. The surface is wrinkled, clean, hairless, and spotless, dark green or light orange-red, the latter with dark vertical lines; the calyx falls off or remains. The seeds are small, dark brown, and about 2 mm long. It has a slight odor and tastes sour and sweet.

[Chemical composition] The fruit contains vitamin C (634 mg/100 g); the root contains dauasterol and β-sitosterol.

[Pharmacological action] Oligosaccharides (AKOS) extracted from the root, injected subcutaneously at 400 mg/kg, can stimulate the proliferation of antibody-forming cells in Swiss mice, antagonize the immunosuppression caused by hydrocortisone acetate, enhance the proliferation response of T cells induced by concanavalin A (ConA) and B cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), thereby enhancing the body's immune function. Actinidia chinensis extract has an inhibitory effect on human plasma cholesterase in vitro, with an inhibition rate of more than 80%.
