[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Adiantum longicornis of the Adiantum family.

【Original morphology】 Plant height 20-30cm. The rhizome is long and horizontal, densely covered with reddish-brown, shiny, broad lanceolate scales. Leaves are sub-or distal; petiole is about 15cm long, reddish brown, sparsely scaly at base, smooth upward; leaf blade is thin papery, ovate, 15-20cm long, 8-14cm wide, about 14cm wide at base, and tripinnate; pinnae are 5-7 pairs, alternate, petiolate, triangular-ovate to oblong, acuminate at apex, one pair at base is larger, 5-7cm long, 3-5cm wide, and bipinnate; primary pinnules are 5-6 pairs, alternate, oblong or nearly inverted triangle, up to 3cm long, about 1cm wide, pinnate or ternate; terminal pinnules are 3-5 pairs, broadly fan-shaped, about 1cm long and wide, or smaller, upper margin is often oblique, with long and sharp serrations, no thorns at tooth tip, cuneate on both sides, entire; veins are often dichotomously branched, slightly obvious, reaching tooth tip. The sori are long, sometimes reniform, with 1-3 pinnae per terminal, arranged transversely in the notch of the upper margin; the sori cap is brown, membranous, and entire.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on rocks under forests at an altitude of 2500-4150m or under alpine oak forests and coniferous forests.

【Nature and flavor】 slightly bitter; astringent; cool

【Meridian】 Bladder; Liver; Lung

【Functions and indications】 Clears heat and promotes diuresis; clears the lungs and eliminates phlegm; promotes blood circulation and regulates menstruation. Mainly used for painful urination; cough with a lot of sputum; irregular menstruation

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g.

[Discussions by various scholars] "Xinhua Compendium of Materia Medica": The taste is slightly bitter and astringent, and it is cool in nature. It has the functions of diuresis, expectorant and menstruation regulation. Used for urinary tract infection, bronchitis and irregular menstruation.
