[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the root of Wedelia hemp-leaf plant of the Asteraceae family.

[Original morphology] Wedelia hemp-leaved is an erect or ascending herb, sometimes climbing, 20-80cm or up to 100cm high. The fibrous roots are clustered and fleshy, and red juice will flow out when broken. The stem is erect, cylindrical, branched, coarsely grooved, and green-red. Leaves opposite; with 5-40mm petiole; leaf blade ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 10-13cm long including petiole, 3-7cm wide, apex acuminate, base usually short cuneate or rarely rounded, margin with irregular serrations or double teeth, covered with rough hairs with warty base above, denser hairs below, 3 veins near base, 1-3 pairs of lateral veins above the middle of midrib, reticulate veins usually obvious; upper leaves small, with short petioles or sessile, leaf blade lanceolate, 2-2.5cm long, 1-2.5cm wide, apex short or acuminate, base rounded or cuneate. There are few capitulums, 2-2.5cm in diameter, terminal or axillary; peduncle 2-3cm long or longer, covered with white spreading rough hairs; involucre broadly bell-shaped or hemispherical, about 15mm in diameter; involucral bracts 2 layers, outer layer leafy, green, oblong or oblanceolate, about 8mm long, 3-4mm wide, acuminate at apex, densely covered with long coarse hairs on the back, inner layer oblong to obovate-oblong, 5-8mm long, obtuse at apex, covered with sparse hairs; rubbings folded into oblong, about 8mm long; ligulate flowers 1 layer, yellow, ligules ovate-oblong, about 11mm long, 4mm wide, 2-toothed at apex, rarely 3-lobed, tube short, 3-4mm long; tubular flowers yellow, eaves 5 shallowly lobed, lobes triangular-acuminate, covered with sparse hairs. Achenes are obovate, slightly flat on the back, about 4mm long, 2-3mm wide, brown-red, densely covered with white wart-like protrusions, with the tip contracted and nearly rounded, and the contracted part covered with dense hairs. The pappus are short thorn-shaped, 2-3 in number, of unequal length, with a pappus ring at the base. Flowering period is from July to November.
