[Source] Medicinal material source: the roots and rhizomes of the Ranunculaceae plant Thalictrum lucidum.

[Original form] Thalictrum lucidum, perennial herb, 15-100cm tall. Hairless or with short soft hairs when young, which fall off and become hairless as they grow up. Stem erect, branched or unbranched above. Leaves are alternate; petioles are short and sheathed; stipules are membranous and brown; basal leaves and lower stems wither after flowering; leaves in the middle of the stem are three to four times ternate and nearly pinnate, with short petioles; leaf blades are 5.5-12cm long; leaflets are herbaceous, rhombic broadly obovate, ovate or nearly round, 4-15m long, 3.5-15mm wide, with acute or obtuse apex, base rounded cuneate or rounded, sometimes shallowly cordate, 3 shallowly lobed, lobes entire or with 2-3 sparse teeth, upper veins slightly depressed, sparsely covered with glandular hairs, lower veins slightly raised, with short soft hairs and glandular hairs along the veins. Inflorescence; with a few or many flowers; flowers are bisexual, pedicels are thin, 5-12mm long, covered with white short soft hairs and glandular hairs; sepals are 4-5, petal-shaped, ovate, 2.5-4mm long, about 1.5mm wide, light yellow-green, often with sparse soft hairs on the outside, sometimes falling; petals are absent; stamens are numerous, 1-2 times longer than sepals, filaments are narrowly linear at the top and filiform at the bottom, anthers are narrowly oblong, 2.5-3.5mm long, with short tips; carpels are 4-8, covered with sparse soft hairs, sessile, and stigma is triangular-arrow shaped. Achenes are obovate, flat, 3-5mm long, pubescent, with 8 longitudinal ribs, and persistent stigma about 1mm. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from June to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on mountain grass slopes or high mountain gravel at an altitude of 350-4500m.

[Properties] Identification of properties: dozens of fine roots grow in clusters under smaller rhizomes, 3-8cm long and about 1.5mm in diameter; the surface is brown. It is brittle, easy to break, and the cross section is slightly fibrous. It has a faint smell and a slightly bitter taste.

[Chemical composition] The root contains berberine, isboldine, magnoflorine, glaucine, glauvine, corunnine, thalphine, thalphinine, etc. The above-ground parts contain berberine, thalflavine, harmine, oxyglaucine, thalfoetidine, isotetrandrine, berbamine, phetidine, fetidine, cyclofoetoside A and B, foetoside C, daucosterol, rutin, rhamnetin-3-β-D-glucopyranoside and thalictric acid.

[Pharmacological action] 1. Anti-cancer effect. Thalictrine can inhibit the growth of Wacker's sarcoma W256 in rats and Lewis sarcoma in mice. Thalictinoside C also has anti-tumor activity.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and dampness; detoxifies. It is used to treat damp-heat dysentery, jaundice, red and swollen eyes, carbuncle, furuncle, rheumatism and arthralgia.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-10g. For external use: take appropriate amount, grind into powder and apply on the affected area.
