It is a perennial herb, and the plant height is about one to three meters. It can have clustered underground stems, upright above-ground stems, and short rhizomes. The leaves are sessile or short-petiolate, arranged in two rows alternately, lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, with a pointed apex and a broad cuneate base. The leaf margins are straight, with small, deciduous bristles and finely serrated residual scars.

The inflorescence is terminal, and the flower buds are completely enclosed in a sheath-like bract. There is one stamen, and the ovary is inferior, oval, and 3-chambered. Capsule is oval or fusiform. The seeds are irregularly oblate, brown-black, and covered with a light brown aril. The flowering period is from March to May, and the fruiting period is June.

Alpinia oxyphylla is a semi-shade plant and requires a certain degree of shade, with a shade degree of 40% to 50% being appropriate. It likes a warm and humid climate, requires an annual average temperature of 23-25℃ and an annual rainfall of 1500-2500 mm. The most suitable growth conditions are when the relative humidity of the air is above 80% and the soil moisture content is 25% to 30%. Main indications (effects): Warming the spleen and stopping diarrhea, regulating saliva, warming the kidneys, consolidating semen and reducing urination. It is used for diarrhea due to spleen cold, cold pain in the abdomen, excessive salivation, enuresis due to kidney deficiency, frequent urination, and leukorrhea.
