Can agarwood be soaked in water and drunk?

Agarwood is a relatively common Chinese medicinal material, but many people are not aware of its efficacy. Agarwood can clear away heat and detoxify, and can also be soaked in water and drunk in daily life. Although the water soaked with agarwood has a certain bitter taste, we can also add some honey and brown sugar into it, which can alleviate the taste to a certain extent. It not only promotes health but also replenishes qi and blood. So, can agarwood be boiled in water and drunk?

First: People who are not suitable for taking agarwood

Experts tell us that agarwood is not suitable for patients with yin deficiency, hyperactivity of fire, and qi deficiency and sinking. Otherwise, it will not only fail to cure the disease but will aggravate the symptoms of the disease. Many famous Chinese medicine books have detailed records of the contraindications of drinking agarwood tea, especially "Bencao Congxin", "Benjing Fengyuan", "Bencao Huiyan", "Bencao Jingshu", etc., all of which recommend that patients with yin deficiency, fire reversal, and qi deficiency should not take agarwood as a Chinese medicinal material.

Second: Agarwood and cinnamon cannot be mixed

Agarwood is not suitable to be used together with cinnamon. This is because both of these medicinal materials are good at treating lower abdominal pain symptoms caused by deficiency of qi and blood, coldness and stasis. However, agarwood is more inclined to relieve stagnation from the aspect of regulating qi, and ultimately treat lower abdominal pain; while cinnamon is more inclined to warm yang and exert the effect of dispelling cold. These two medicinal materials are fundamentally different, so they cannot be mixed.

Third: Usage and dosage of agarwood

If you want to better avoid the taboo of drinking agarwood tea in your life, it is very necessary to figure out the usage and dosage of this medicinal material. In daily life, agarwood is mostly taken by soaking in water as introduced in this article, with the dosage controlled between 0.9 grams and 3 grams. You can also grind agarwood into powder and make it into pills or powders for use. Due to the high price of agarwood, this method is more common.

Fourth: How to identify agarwood

Most of the agarwood sold on the market are irregular flakes or sticks. The surface is brown and often has black and yellow interlaced textures, and is slightly shiny. It will sink after entering the water, but some parts will float. It has a solid texture and is difficult to break. If it is broken, a gray-brown surface will be seen. Agarwood has a special aroma, and it tastes bitter. Then there will be oil coming out, and it feels stronger. When choosing agarwood in life, you should choose those that are black in color, heavy in texture, rich in oil, and have a strong aroma. Such agarwood will have better quality.
