[Source] Medicinal material source: the rhizome or whole herb of Lijiang ear fern, a plant of the Dryopteris family.

【Original form】The plant is up to 20cm tall. The rhizome is short and curved, surrounded by a large cluster of brown, withered petioles. The leaves are clustered; the petiole is about 2 cm long, covered with large brown round or oval scales, mixed with lanceolate or narrow lanceolate scales; the leaf blade is leathery, 10-18 cm long, about 2 cm wide in the middle, and pointed. Slightly narrowed downwards, deeply pinnate twice or nearly deeply pinnate twice; pinnae about 30 pairs, sessile, about 1 cm long in the middle, about 6 mm wide at the base, triangular, acute, symmetrical at the base, with pinnae reaching the rachis; lobes 4-6 pairs, 1 pair slightly larger at the base, green when dry, covered with light brown, narrow lanceolate scales or hairs on both sides, sparse on the upper side, denser on the lower side; rachis densely covered with brown, lanceolate scales, with serrated edges; veins not obvious on both sides. The sori are small, round, brown, dorsally borne between the lateral veins, 1-3 per lobe; the sori cap is persistent.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown under bushes or in grasslands on mountain slopes above 3000m above sea level.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet; slightly astringent; neutral

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; stops bleeding; kills insects. Mainly used for epistaxis, blood in stool, metrorrhagia, traumatic bleeding, intestinal parasites

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 10-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount, mash and apply, or grind into powder and apply.
