[Other names] Goose tube whitehead, bamboo leaf whitehead

[Source] This product is the dried rhizome and root of Cynanchum stauntonii (Decne.) Schltr. ex Levl. or Cynanchum glaucescens (Decne.) Hand.-Mazz., plants of the Apocynaceae family. Dig up in autumn, wash and dry.

[Properties] Willow Leaf Whitehead: The rhizome is slender and cylindrical, branched, slightly curved, 4 to 15 cm long and 1.5 to 4 mm in diameter. The surface is yellow-white or yellow-brown, with obvious nodes, internodes 1.5 to 4.5 cm long, and a residual stem at the top. It is brittle and hollow in cross section. The nodes are clustered with slender, curved roots that can be up to 10 cm long and less than 1 mm in diameter. They have multiple branches that are hair-like and often coiled into a ball. Slight odor, slightly sweet taste.

[Identification] Take 1g of crude powder, add 10ml of 70% ethanol, heat under reflux for 1 hour and filter. Take 1 ml of the filtrate, evaporate to dryness, add 1 ml of acetic anhydride to the residue to dissolve it, and then add 1 drop of sulfuric acid. The willow leaves appear reddish purple before turning white, and turn into dirty green after standing; the genkwa leaves appear brownish red before turning white, and do not change color after standing.

[Processing] Baiqian : remove impurities, wash, soak, cut into sections, and dry. Before honey whitening: Before whitening, fry according to the honey roasting method (Appendix Ⅱ D) until it is no longer sticky.

【Nature and flavor】Pungent, bitter, slightly warm.
