【Original form】 Deciduous vine. The branches are stout, with short tendrils, many branches, and sticky suckers at the tips. The leaves are broadly ovate, 10-20 cm long, 8-17 cm wide, wider above the middle, usually 3-lobed at the tip, and heart-shaped at the base; the leaves on seedlings or lower branches are smaller and divided into 3 leaflets, all with petioles, the middle leaflet is obovate, and the leaflets on both sides are obliquely ovate; the leaf blade margin is coarsely serrated with sharp tooth tips, dark green, shiny, and glabrous above, light green below, with soft hairs on the veins; the petiole is 8-22 cm long. The cymes are usually borne on short branches between two leaves, 4 to 8 cm long; the calyx is small; there are 5 petals; there are 5 stamens, and the disk is attached to the ovary; the ovary is superior and has 2 chambers. Each locule contains 2 ovules, the style is single, very short, and the stigma is capitate. The berries are blue-black, spherical, and about 6 to 8 mm in diameter. Flowering period is June. Fruiting period is September.

[Habitat distribution] Mostly climb on walls and rocks. Distributed in Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong and other places.

【Chemical composition】 The leaves contain cyanidin. The seeds contain 28% oil. It contains palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, palmitoleic acid and linoleic acid. The crown gall of Parthenocissus contains carboxyethyl lysine and carboxyethyl ornithine.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, warm.

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation, dispel wind and relieve pain. It is used to treat postpartum blood stasis, abdominal lumps, leucorrhea, rheumatic pain in muscles and bones, and migraine.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 2 to 5 qian; or soaked in wine.

[Additional prescription] ① For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis: 1 liang of ivy vine stems or roots, 1 liang of stone spider plant. Stewed pig's feet and take it three to four times.
