[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb with roots of the Umbelliferae plant Pimpinella foeniculum.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 30-70cm tall. The roots are up to 10 cm long. The stem is often solitary, with a few branches in the middle and upper parts. The basal leaves and the middle and lower leaves of the stem are petiolate; the leaf blades are nearly leathery, cordate, 2-5cm long, 1-3cm wide, hairy on the back, with serrated edges. The leaves on the upper part of the stem are smaller, sessile, 3-lobed or nearly pinnate, and the lobes are lanceolate. Inflorescence compound umbel; 1-2 bracts, linear, or absent; 8-20 rays, hairy; 1-3 bracteoles, linear, shorter than pedicel; no calyx teeth; petals white, cuneate at base, concave at apex, with inflexed ligules. The fruit is ovoid and hairy; there are 1-3 oil tubes in each groove and 2-4 oil tubes on the commissure. The flowering and fruiting period is from May to October.
